Packing for a trip always has its nuances and if you are planning on going to Penang as a solo female traveller, there are a few things you might want to know before packing.

The clothes

Regardless of whether you are staying at a popular  Penang hotel  the likes of PARKROYAL Penang Resort or any other similar accommodation, this is something you cannot skip on when packing for your solo trip. Depending on the season and the type of activities you are planning on doing, it is better to take clothes accordingly. If you are from one of the Western countries, you might want to know that people in the Southern part of the world tend to stare at foreigners and thus, it is better if you opt for clothing that covers most parts of your body, especially if you're going to be in public transport. You could always shop for some local clothing while in Penang, but if you do not want to spend a bit of your budget on clothing, make sure you pack accordingly.

Sunscreen and moisturizer

Depending on which part of the world you are from, you might need sunscreen or moisturizer, sometimes even both. It is important to keep in mind that the majority of moisturizers in Malaysia are not what your skin is used to, so if you do not want to experience a skin allergy during your holiday, it is better to stock up on your kind of lotion and take it with you during your solo trip. If you are on any prescribed medication, then you might want to stock up and that too. Some of the medicines will not be available in the same brands, so to be on the safer side, get them locally, before your solo trip to Penang.

 Safety precautions

Being a solo female traveller, there are many safety precautions one takes when travelling in a foreign country. Make sure that your daily bag has self-defence items for when you are stuck in dangerous situations. Nobody wishes for this to happen, but you'd rather have something planned to get yourself out of the situation than worry about it when you are in it. Carry pepper spray, mace or something that is known to help in your country during your trip alone.

Footwear

Since you are going to be travelling around Penang solo, you will probably end up doing a lot of walking and looking around, thus, make sure you opt for cosy footwear. Going for breathable shoes or sandals are a better idea than opting for heels or something more fashionable as they tend to be extremely uncomfortable after a while.

Electronic devices

Smartphones always come with a good camera nowadays, but if you want to take someone professional photographs of your solo trip to Penang, you might want to carry a camera or even a professional DSLR if you're into that kind of thing. Make sure you carry rechargeable batteries and also charging cables that would fit into international ports.

Documents to carry around

You will have to pack documents in your hand luggage because you might need a few of these documents when you are entering the country itself and not just when you are roaming around. It is better to carry your passport and a few other documents in your hand when you are travelling to some parts of Penang as some places might need identification to enter a few places and destinations. At that time, you'd rather have it in hand than worry about it being back in your hotel because you will have to make a trip to the room and come all the way back.
